The Medical Interpreter coordinates and delivers both verbal and written language interpretation for patient, families, and caregivers. This role will support IMED and Riverton, and another hospital or clinic depending on patient needs. Shifts are Monday - Friday from 10:00-19:00. This position can work remotely 4 hours doing video interpretation, depending on patient needs. Job Essentials include providing complete and accurate interpretation for patients, families, and Intermountain staff in order to facilitate clear communication, either in-person, over video or telephone; using communication methods appropriate for patient developmental age and mental condition; assisting patients, families, and staff with sight translation of forms and familiarity with medical terminology; demonstrating cultural sensitivity and unbiased interpretation; adhering to professional ethics and standards of practice, as well as Intermountain Policies and legal requirements; managing time productively and responding to requests timely; coordinating interpretation assignments and keeping accurate records; using computer and internet tools for research and communication; and possibly providing translation services. Minimum qualifications include successful completion of a pre-hire skills assessment and a 40-hr Professional Medical Interpreting Course or equivalent qualifications, excellent oral and written command of both source and target languages, ability to perform consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation accurately, proficiency in medical terminology, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree, national certification as a Medical Interpreter, two years of experience, and completion of a medical terminology course. Physical requirements include hearing/listening and speaking.
