Soliant is seeking a qualified and dedicated American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide virtual interpreting services for deaf and hard-of-hearing students participating in our K12 online learning programs. The ideal candidate will ensure effective communication between students, educators, and support staff, adhering to professional standards and confidentiality requirements.
Provide real-time interpreting (ASL to English and English to ASL) for live virtual classes, meetings, and school-related events.
Facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their instructors, peers, and support staff.
Adapt signing to the communication needs and preferences of individual students (e.g., PSE, SEE, or ASL).
Interpret educational content in various subjects while maintaining accuracy, tone, and context.
Collaborate withteachers, special education staff, and student support teams to ensure inclusive access to curriculum and activities.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct.
Participate in virtual team meetings and professional development, as required.
Use appropriate technology platforms (Zoom, Google Meet, LMS tools) to perform interpreting duties in an online environment.
Required:
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates or Bachelors degree preferred.
Valid national certification (e.g., RID certification) or Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level II or III.
Experience interpreting in an educational setting, preferably K12.
Strong technology skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote/virtual setting.
Reliable internet connection and appropriate home office setup.
Preferred:
Knowledge of educational terminology and instructional content.
Experience working with students in a virtual school or e-learning environment.
Understanding of IEP/504 accommodations for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
This is a remote position; the candidate must be able to work in a quiet, distraction-free environment.
